Air Quality – Particle Concentration Reports

An air quality monitoring program measured the quantity of dust particles in the air, since particles are considered the primary source of concern with regard to the construction work.

As part of the Environmental Assessment for the new Champlain Bridge corridor project, which included consultations with local residents, Infrastructure Canada committed to monitoring and reporting on air quality during the construction of the bridge.  You can see the results on Infrastructure Canada’s website: http://www.infrastructure.gc.ca/nbsl-npsl/aqr-rqa-eng.html

Sound measurements

At the start of each new activity deemed noisy according to the noise management plan, a sound survey was carried out. Such reports were also produced when lodging a complaint from residents, at the request of an environmental supervisor or to validate the effectiveness of a mitigation measure taken as part of the project. These readings were carried out using a class 1 sound level meter in accordance with current standards. The unit is measured in A-weighted decibel (dBA) and the L10 indicator. The L10 indicator (in dBA) corresponds to the noise level that is exceeded for 10% of the time of the sound reading. For example, an L10 of 69 dBA taken during a thirty-minute reading indicates that for at least 3 minutes the noise level was greater than or equal to 69 dBA, and that during the remainder of the measurement period it was there. inferior.

In the event of non-compliance during a survey, there was a cessation of noisy activity and immediate implementation of noise mitigation measures before continuing work. Subsequently, a new survey was carried out to ensure the effectiveness of the measures.
