Signature on the Saint-Lawrence (SSL) would like to notify residents living near the former Île-des-Soeurs bridge that the demolition and reconstruction work related to the bridge will start at the beginning of November.
SSL is currently preparing accesses to the work sites on both banks of the river. This activity will include cutting some trees around the work area and a slight diversion of the bicycle path that runs under the former bridge on L’Île-des-Soeurs side.
Construction of a jetty in Île-des-Soeurs channel
A 140-m jetty will be built from the west bank of L’Île-des-Soeurs channel in the next few months. This will serve as a work platform for the demolition of the former bridge and the construction of the new bridge in 2016. A navigational corridor will clearly indicate the passage. Pleasure boaters will be required to respect the signage and safety measures in the channel.
The construction work on the pier will take place during the day, from Monday to Friday, and will extend from the beginning of November into December; this work will coincide with the demolition of the existing bridge. The anticipated noise levels for this work will meet all environmental requirements. Regular monitoring and surveillance will be carried out by the Environment team.
Demolition of the former Île-des-Soeurs bridge
The demolition of the former Île-des-Soeurs bridge will begin in November 2015 and should end in April 2016. The work will take place during the day, from Monday to Friday. Some activities related to debris collection will also take place in the evenings and night-time.
The noise levels for this work will not exceed the required levels for day, evening and night work. The Environment team will also monitor the noise levels of these activities regularly.
Construction of the new Île-des-Soeurs bridge
The design and construction planning for the new Île-des-Soeurs bridge is currently underway. Once the construction calendar has been established for 2016, we will be able to provide residents with further details.
Public information meeting: November 5, 2015
A public information meeting for L’Île-des-Soeurs residents will be held on November 5, 2015, at the Elgar community centre at 7 p.m. (260 Elgar, Île-des-Sœurs). It will focus on upcoming work on the west jetty in the Pointe-Nord area and on the work related to the new Île-des-Soeurs bridge.
