2017 Construction Season is Going Strong – Verdun / Le Sud-Ouest
Now that the nicer weather is here, SSL’s teams are resuming their activities to widen Highway 15 in the Verdun / Le Sud-Ouest area, between Atwater and Wellington. One of our goals during the upcoming construction season will be to work as efficiently as possible so we can open Highway 15 South by the end of 2017. We ask for the collaboration of the residents who live near the work sites as we strive to reach this ambitious goal.
Main Highway 15 South construction activities to the end of 2017
- Construction of retaining walls
- Construction of various overpasses from Atwater to Gaétan Laberge
- Start of construction of permanent noise barriers
- Drainage and earthwork operations
- Paving
Note that SSL must comply with the noise and air quality requirements included in its partnership agreement with the Government of Canada and that we regularly monitor the situation to make sure we stay within the allowable limits. Developments in Mobility
A temporary Exit 60 off Highway 15 South (replacing the Exit 60 behind Maxi) will be set up for approximately six months at the edge of our right of way, between La Poudrière and Wellington streets. Set for June, its implementation will also include temporary noise barriers and concrete safety barriers to isolate the exit from the residential areas and reduce the noise level.
This temporary exit will be put into service at the same time as the new configuration of Exit 61 off Highway 15 South at Atwater, which will improve mobility towards Verdun and Le Sud-Ouest.
This will also coincide with the closure of the Atwater on-ramp to Highway 15 North for about two months.
In addition, during the summer, Exit 60 off Highway 15 North and the new Gaétan Laberge Boulevard will be reopened, making it easier for drivers to get to Verdun. This comes as good news for everyone.
Work Schedule
Most of our activities are carried out on weekdays, from 7 a.m. (with teams arriving at the job site around 6:30 a.m.) to 7 p.m., and they sometimes extend into the weekend, during the same hours. Some work may take place in the evening and/or at night, but stricter noise criteria apply during these later hours.
