Construction Season 2017 is well underway – Île-des-Sœurs (Pointe Nord)

Now that the nicer weather is here, SSL’s teams are working hard to continue the construction of the new Champlain Bridge as well as works dedicated to the widening of Highway 15. We took advantage of the Good Neighbourly Relations Committee meeting in April, to launch an information campaign on the intensification of the construction activities in 2017 and 2018, in L’Île-des-Soeurs area. We have indicated to the members of the committee and to the public present, what will characterize the next two years, in terms of works.

Main works in 2017 and 2018:

  • Construction on the new Champlain Bridge
  • Construction of the new Île-des-Sœurs Bridge
  • Reconstruction of the Boulevard Île-des-Sœurs overpass
  • Reconstruction of the Boulevard René-Lévesque overpass
  • Construction of a pedestrian tunnel leading to the future REM station
  • Construction of highways linking to the two bridges

Work on the west approach in the coming months

The installation of footings at the bottom of the river is well under way and will end over the summer. Several units have already received the prefabricated segments dedicated to raise the pillars up to the height of the pier caps, which the first was installed on the cable-stayed bridge last week. Soon, pier caps will also be visible from the west approach. In addition, pre-assembly activities for the steel box girders began and will continue until 2018. Once assembled, they will be transported by barges and installed on the pier caps, forming the steel frame of the new bridge.
