The connection between the West Approach and the Cable-Stayed Bridge: installation of the last box girders

Mid-September, the marine crews of the west approach completed the installation of the five box girders between the W03 and W02 pillars located at the end of the cable-stayed Bridge’s back span. For the first time, the west abutment of L’Île-des-Soeurs is linked to the Cable-Stayed Bridge in the area of the Seaway.

Over the last 13 months, the lifting work on the St. Lawrence River has sometimes been very demanding because of the strong current, wind and shallow draft. The end of installation of the box girders on the water is thus the result of a hard and exceptional work done by all teams involved.

This crucial step also announces the upcoming end of the installation of box girders on the land portion of the west approach.
